Ian is the founder and CEO of Soundfly, a different kind of music school online that combines the highest-quality educational content with personal touch mentorship. He founded Soundfly in 2014 to scratch his own itch for a better way to advance his own musical skills online. Since then, Soundfly has reached millions of musicians through its courses, blog, or personalized mentorship services.
Prior to starting Soundfly, he was the COO and founding partner of a non-profit called The Future Project, where he helped create and design the role of the Dream Director — a new role within public schools that works with students to help unleash their dreams and projects. He helped launch the program to hundreds of students across four public schools in its first year and guided it to an even bigger roll-out in years two and three.
As a musician, Ian has played all over Europe, North America, and Asia as one-third of the experimental trio Sontag Shogun; performed with incredible musicians like Julia Kent, Matana Roberts, and Greg Fox; composed music for films and videos, including the award-winning short film Rosa: These Storms; and recorded multiple well-received albums.
