Charlie Steiner is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer. Today he is the Video Director at WWOZ, filming the music and culture of New Orleans. In the 60’s and 70’s he covered protest movements and important figures of the day from Ali to Zappa, including Dylan, Warhol, Robert Kennedy and Bob Marley. His video documentaries examine the relationship between culture and politics: in Russia, Poland, the Philippines, India; he has been filming Japanese avant-garde dancer Min Tanaka since 1979. He was a widely published photojournalist in the 1980’s and his photographs have been exhibited in Tokyo, New York, Boston, Tucson, East Hampton and New Orleans.
